Fresh Faces Shine in Georgia Track & Field
Georgia’s track and field team has new stars in freshmen Adaejah Hodge and Jonathan Simms. They both impressed at the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas, receiving Southeastern Conference (SEC) weekly honors.
Hodge was named SEC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week for her outstanding debut. She ran the women’s 200-meter dash in a blazing 22.53 seconds, marking the fastest time in the world this season. This performance not only tied the meet record but also placed Hodge 25th on the all-time indoor collegiate list. In the women’s 60-meter dash, she clocked in at 7.16 seconds, ranking her third in the current NCAA standings and in Georgia’s school history.
Simms also stood out, earning SEC Men’s Athlete of the Week for his run in the men’s 400-meter dash. He finished as the top collegiate competitor with a time of 45.04 seconds, just behind former Bulldog Christopher Morales-Williams, who set a meet record of 44.87 seconds. Simms’s time also puts him second in the NCAA rankings, close to his earlier time of 44.62 seconds.
Both athletes have shown tremendous potential early in their collegiate careers. Hodge’s record-breaking times showcase the evolving landscape of women’s sprinting, where young talents are increasingly breaking barriers. Historically, the 200-meter dash has seen only a few athletes reach such high levels in their first year. Similarly, Simms’s achievements reflect a growing trend in American collegiate athletics, where young athletes are hitting impressive marks earlier than ever.
Looking ahead, the Georgia track team will take a break before competing in two major events: Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invite and Boston’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational, scheduled for February 13-14.
