West Hartford, Conn. – On Monday, the Conference of New England (CNE) recognized freshman Allie Shenloogian from Park Ridge, N.J., as the women’s basketball rookie of the week.
In her debut home game on November 14 against the United States Coast Guard Academy, Allie made a strong impact. She scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and provided two assists. Her shooting was solid, hitting 4 out of 9 from the field, including one from three-point range, and she made two of four from the free-throw line, contributing to a 68-60 victory.
This season, Allie has played in all three games, averaging 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while spending about 25 minutes on the court each game.
The Hawks women’s basketball team will face Springfield College on Saturday, November 22, at 4:30 PM.
The Conference of New England, formed in 1984 as the Commonwealth Coast Conference and rebranded in 2024, includes 11 full member and five associate member institutions across New England. It aims to enrich the experience of student-athletes, balancing academics with competitive sports.
Recent trends show that student-athletes are increasingly focusing on mental health and well-being, with over 60% reporting mental health issues in a 2022 NCAA survey. It’s crucial for programs to provide support systems that foster not just athletic performance, but mental resilience as well.
