The University of Hawai’i softball team recently wrapped up the Bank of Hawai’i Paradise Classic with an impressive 4-1 record. On a challenging day marked by rain delays, the Rainbow Wahine faced Pacific and Seattle U in a doubleheader, showcasing both determination and skill.
In the first game, UH triumphed over Pacific with a solid 3-1 win. Pitcher Taryn Irimata had a standout performance, allowing just one run while striking out seven batters. The offense kicked into gear in the second inning, where Ellyanna Cinzori ignited a rally with a double. Abby Sasaki contributed with an RBI single, and they executed a double-steal that extended the lead to 2-0. Although Pacific managed to score in the third inning, UH answered back in the fourth to secure the win.
In the final game against Seattle U, the ‘Bows started strong, leading 2-1 at one point. However, Seattle U turned the tide, scoring five runs in the third inning alone, eventually winning 9-3. Notably, Carys Murakami shone for UH, hitting a double that brought two runs home early in the game.
The Rainbow Wahine faced various challenges throughout the tournament, particularly with weather conditions affecting play. In fact, a recent survey revealed that nearly 75% of athletes feel weather impacts their performance, emphasizing the dedication needed to compete under less-than-ideal circumstances.
As the team heads into their first road trip of 2026, they’re set to participate in tournaments in Southern California, starting with the CBU Classic. This season is particularly pivotal as Hawaii continues building toward a competitive future, showcasing not only talent but also resilience.
