Students at the University of Indianapolis now have round-the-clock access to mental health support through a new partnership with TimelyCare. This service allows students to connect with licensed counselors from all 50 states for free, removing the usual barriers of insurance and cost.
The offerings through TimelyCare include:
- Instant mental health support (TalkNow)
- Care navigation assistance
- A peer support community
- Digital self-care resources
- Consultations for faculty on helping students in distress
Dr. Kelly Miller, director of the UIndy Student Counseling Center, expressed excitement about this new resource. She emphasized the importance of having access to mental health care year-round, whether students are on campus or away. This is especially beneficial during breaks or for those studying online from different states. The Student Counseling Center is committed to prioritizing mental health, and this partnership is a significant step in that direction.
Luke Hejl, CEO and co-founder of TimelyCare, highlighted the growing demand for accessible mental health support. He believes that combining TimelyCare’s resources with campus professionals creates a supportive environment for students. This collaboration aims to bolster not just academic success but also emotional and personal well-being.
UIndy’s existing support services, like the Student Counseling Center, will continue offering various programs such as:
- Single-session treatments
- Group sessions and workshops
- Partner counseling options
- Crisis and triage appointments
- Outreach and prevention initiatives
As mental health continues to be a critical issue, it’s worth noting that a recent study found that 1 in 5 students experience significant distress during their college years. This partnership with TimelyCare aims to alleviate some of that burden, providing students not only with resources but also an avenue for connection and support. UIndy students can start registering for TimelyCare services on August 18, with availability commencing on August 25.
