University of Kansas Celebrates Its First Top 10 Finish of the Spring Season!

PALOS VERDES, Calif. – The Kansas women’s golf team wrapped up the Therese Hession Regional Challenge in a strong tie for ninth place, finishing with scores of 293-295-288 for a total of +24.

UCLA took the tournament win with an impressive score of 844 (-8). Behind them were Texas (+3), Texas A&M (+9), Florida (+12), and Oregon (+13).

Head coach Lindsay Kuhle expressed her pride in the team’s performance. “All six of our players did well, which is what we aim for in every tournament. Ebba’s finish at 68 with a birdie on the last hole was particularly exciting,” she noted.

Sophomore Ebba Nordstedt led the Jayhawks with rounds of 72-73-68, finishing in eighth place. This marks her second top-10 finish of the season and the eighth top-20 finish of her career. Notably, she achieved five rounds in the 60s, boasting multiple birdies and one eagle.

Junior Lyla Louderbaugh tied for 12th, posting scores of 70-71-74 (+2). This is her fifth top-20 finish this season and her 14th overall.

Seniors Amy DeKock and Anna Wallin both tied for 59th with a score of 225 (+12). DeKock recorded five birdies, while Wallin made eight. Sophomore Jillian Fatkin rounded out the team, tying for 81st with scores of 78-80-76 (+21).

Freshman Kinslea Jones shone as an individual competitor, tying for ninth place with scores of 67-74-73 (+1). Her opening round of 67 (-4) not only marked her first top-10 finish but also her first round in the 60s.

In 2023, women’s golf has seen a rise in competition, with many universities improving their programs. Recent statistics reveal that more collegiate teams are emphasizing mental preparation and advanced analytics for player improvement. This trend is evident in how Kansas has adapted its approach.

The Kansas team is set to continue their season at the Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, on February 22-23, ready to build on their recent successes.
