Lynchburg Falls to Randolph-Macon in Doubleheader
The University of Lynchburg softball team faced a tough day against Randolph-Macon, losing both games of their doubleheader. The first match ended in a narrow 4-3 defeat, and the second was an 8-0 shutout.
In the first game, Lynchburg had a rocky start. Randolph-Macon grabbed a 2-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly in the second inning and another run in the fourth. However, Lynchburg made a comeback in the fifth. With Sydney Bryant and Bryanna Orange hitting back-to-back singles, the team found its spark. Alex Love’s double and Sarah Watts’ two-run single turned the score to 3-2 in Lynchburg’s favor.
But the excitement didn’t last long. Randolph-Macon rallied in the seventh inning, tying the game with a sacrifice fly before scoring the winning run on a single, sealing the game at 4-3.
The second game proved more challenging for Lynchburg. Despite threatening early by putting runners on second and third in the first inning, they couldn’t score. Randolph-Macon took control, scoring four runs in the second and another four in the third, ending the game early at 8-0.
Lynchburg’s efforts included a double and an RBI from Love and two RBIs from Watts, but they managed just four hits across the game.
Randolph-Macon’s strong pitching kept Lynchburg on the defensive, leading to a total of only two walks and no runs in five innings.
