Lynchburg Track Teams Shine at ODAC Championships
The University of Lynchburg’s men’s track and field team performed brilliantly, scoring 249 points to capture their sixth straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championship title at Eastern Mennonite University. The women’s team also showed strong performance, finishing second with 151.5 points, trailing just behind Washington & Lee.
Men’s Highlights
Lamont Victoria stood out, dominating the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the 4×100-meter relay. His impressive showing included a record-setting 10.51 seconds in the 100-meter preliminaries and a 10.55 in the final. Victoria not only secured three first-place finishes but also contributed significantly to the team’s impressive score—one of the highest in ODAC history.
The men’s squad excelled across numerous events, achieving victories in nine of the twenty contests. They set championship records for both the 100-meter and the 5,000-meter events. The 5,000-meter race, led by Alex Jordan, set a new championship benchmark with a time of 14:38.31. Teammate Chasen Hunt also shone, winning the 1,500-meter run.
Field events brought further glory with Jamarcus Brown clearing an impressive 6′ 11″ in the high jump. Additionally, Bronson Andrasz celebrated his first conference title in pole vaulting with a height of 15′ 3″.
Women’s Highlights
For the women, their 4×100-meter relay team led the way, finishing in 47.40 seconds—placing them among the top 25 teams in Division III. Kacey Kelly made headlines with her winning mark in the triple jump at 40′ 2″, solidifying her place on the NCAA qualifying list.
Haylee Smith also triumphed in the javelin throw with a personal best of 131′ 11″. The competition didn’t stop there; multiple athletes placed in the top tiers of various events. Kaitlyn Ruiz’s stellar performance in the 400-meter run showcased her potential with a time of 56.41 seconds.
Looking Ahead
Both teams will continue their journey at the Hill City Twilight Meet on May 2, marking their final home meet of the season. The ongoing success of these teams highlights the strong athletic program at Lynchburg, marked by dedication and determination.
