The University of Michigan’s women’s lacrosse head coach, Hannah Nielsen, has been inducted into the inaugural Australian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, as announced by Australia Lacrosse on November 15. This Hall of Fame celebrates outstanding athletes and significant contributors to the growth of the sport in Australia.
Nielsen is a notable figure in lacrosse, having participated in five World Cups. At just 17, she helped Australia secure a World Championship in 2005. Initially part of the under-19 team, she has consistently showcased her talents on the international stage. Currently, she’s preparing for a shot at her sixth World Cup in Tokyo in 2026.
Her impressive record includes being named an All-World selection four times during her World Cup journeys in 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022. Beyond her 2005 championship title, she has also played a role in Australia winning silver and bronze medals in subsequent tournaments.
Most recently, Nielsen co-captained the Australian team at the World Games held in China, where they achieved a bronze medal in the Olympic sixes format. She contributed significantly to the team’s performance, finishing with seven goals and 12 assists throughout the tournament.
The 2025 Hall of Fame class includes 21 inductees, highlighting the growing recognition of lacrosse in Australia and honoring both modern and historical figures in the sport. As interest in women’s lacrosse continues to rise globally, Nielsen’s achievements serve as an inspiration for future athletes in the game.
