PENSACOLA, Fla. – The New Orleans Privateers wrapped up their fall season with a challenging series against West Florida, one of the top Division II teams.
For the women’s team, this match brought a fresh look at Southeastern. Kateryna Kalistratova stood out by winning both of her singles matches, finishing the week with a 3-1 record. Her teammates, Nouray Khaled and Fleur Sprengers, also had success, earning victories in both singles and doubles.
On the men’s side, the Privateers faced a formidable West Florida squad that had an impressive record of 24-3 last year and reached the NCAA Div. II Regional Final. Jacob Rouleau-Mailly and Marius Gyllerup both finished their singles competition undefeated, each winning twice this week. Carlos Melgosa, Jan Rosicky, Jerall Yasin, and Gonzalo Cotter also secured singles victories.
In doubles, Gyllerup and Rosicky scored a win together, while Melgosa and Cotter combined for another victory. This strong finish highlighted the team’s growth as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.
Looking at the bigger picture, collegiate tennis continues to rise in popularity. According to a recent survey by the NCAA, more than 25% of high school athletes express interest in playing at the college level, indicating a growing trend in participation in sports like tennis.
