PERRY, Ga. (March 30, 2026) – The University of North Alabama’s women’s golf team wrapped up their spring season with a solid performance at the Houston Lake Invitational, finishing fourth overall in Perry, Georgia.
The Lions scored a total of 58-over par, including a challenging final round of 17-over. All five players on the team finished within two strokes of one another, showcasing their unity and skill on the course. Junior Ava Schwartz led the way, ending with a score of 10-over, securing eighth place. She carded an impressive 76 in the final round after achieving a personal best with a 71 the day before.
Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen also shone, finishing in the top 10 at 13-over, with rounds of 77-75-77. Both redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber and true freshman Kiersten Riggins matched scores of 76. Riggins ended in a tie for 14th at 15-over, while Klauber placed 18th at 22-over.
Completing the team’s efforts, sophomore Olivia Whittle recorded a score of 78 today, finishing tied for 19th at 24-over. Riggins and Klauber both logged two birdies, and Whittle added one during her round. Schwartz had a steady day with 12 pars and only four bogeys, tying for the most pars in the tournament at 39, while also having one of the fewest bogeys over 54 holes.
As a team, the Lions achieved the second-most pars with 165 and had the second-fewest bogeys at 65. The tournament was won by East Tennessee State, which finished at 21-over. UNA competed well against other solid teams, including Belmont and Mercer.
Looking forward, the Lions will begin the postseason at the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, which takes place from April 17-19 at Dothan Country Club in Alabama.
In recent surveys, golf participation among women has seen a significant rise. According to the National Golf Foundation, women’s participation in the sport increased by 11% in 2023, reflecting a growing interest and investment in women’s athletics across the board. This trend highlights the importance of supporting teams like UNA’s and recognizing their contributions to the sport.
