Redshirt senior Fuzzy Benas shined at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships, earning bronze in both the all-around and vault events. The championships took place at the Smoothie King Center, drawing enthusiastic spectators.
Benas scored a total of 162.310 across two days, finishing third in the national competition. He posted scores of 81.105 and 81.205 on the two days. Oklahoma’s head coach, Mark Williams, praised Benas for his impressive performance: “Going 12 for 12 is remarkable,” Williams said.
Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk also made waves by finishing eighth in his first senior championships, with a total score of 157.300. Another freshman, Nathan Roman, placed 15th with a score of 154.150. Redshirt freshman Alex Deubler secured 20th place with a total of 150.100. The strong showing from these newcomers shows promise for the future of Oklahoma gymnastics.
Benas stood out on multiple apparatuses. He scored 28.250 on vault and ranked third in that event. He also achieved fourth in high bar, fifth on parallel bars, and eighth on floor exercise. His scores highlighted his versatility and skill across the board.
Bogonosiuk performed well on vault too, scoring 27.750. He ranked fourth in this event, showcasing his potential as a rising star in gymnastics. Meanwhile, Roman made a solid impact as he finished 10th on parallel bars.
Interestingly, Benas will now be part of the Senior Men’s National Team for the third time. His journey began after the 2024 Winter Cup, followed by the U.S. Championships, leading up to the Olympic Trials where he secured sixth place. Both Bogonosiuk and Roman, who had impressive junior careers, are stepping into the senior level for the first time.
In addition to their successes, the Junior World Championships are approaching. Roman is set to represent Team USA in this international event, scheduled for November 20-24 in Manila, Philippines. His inclusion in the team reflects his hard work and dedication to the sport.
