AUBURN, Ala. — The Oklahoma track and field teams showcased their talent at the SEC Outdoor Championships this weekend. The women’s team finished 11th with 32 points, and the men came in 13th, scoring 33.5 points.
BJ Green stood out by defending his SEC title in the men’s triple jump. He achieved a personal best of 16.96 meters (55’7.75″), securing the top spot in the NCAA and solidifying his place as one of OU’s best. Green’s impressive record now includes two SEC titles and two Big 12 championships.
Ralford Mullings also shone, winning the men’s discus. He set an Auburn facility record with a throw of 65.10 meters (213’7.00″), making it his second SEC outdoor title in the event.
On the women’s side, Riley Ammenhauser brought home silver in the triple jump, hitting a personal best of 13.35 meters (43’9.75″). Jacelyn Neighbors impressed as well, clearing 4.36 meters (14’3.50″) in the pole vault, placing third and ranking third in OU history.
In the men’s high jump, Trey Bartholomew cleared 2.20 meters (7’2.50″) to secure fourth place, tying for fourth in program history. Julian McCullough wasn’t far behind, jumping 2.17 meters (7’1.50″) to tie for fifth.
The men’s triple jump group contributed valuable points too. Floyd Whitaker achieved a season-best of 16.01 meters (52’6.50″) for sixth place, while Awakhiwe Ndlovu rounded out the scoring with an eighth-place finish at 15.60 meters (51’2.25″).
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team, including Nia Parks, Jada Atkinson, Chloe Rodriguez, and Gladys David Mumbe, clocked in at 3:34.00, marking the sixth-best time in OU history. Jack Vincent also shone, setting a personal best in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 13:59.33.
In other events, Chesni Scott placed ninth in the women’s discus with a throw of 54.58 meters (179’1.00″), and Taylor Fingers also finished ninth in the women’s triple jump at 12.92 meters (42’4.75″).
Looking ahead, qualifying Sooners will head to the NCAA West Regional, taking place in Fayetteville from May 27 to 30. This event is a stepping stone toward the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, scheduled for June 10 to 13.
These competitions are crucial for the athletes, not only to showcase their skills but also for potential future opportunities.
