Oklahoma Women’s Golf Team Stays in the Game at NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Oklahoma women’s golf team made some moves in the second round of the NCAA Championships, climbing four spots to 21st place after 36 holes. With one round left before the first cut, the Sooners are eager to break into the top 15 and secure their spot in the final round at Omni La Costa’s North Course.

Oklahoma has a solid history at the NCAA Championships, finishing in the top 20 for the last five appearances. Currently, the Sooners are at 21st place with a score of +23.

Leading the team is junior Savannah Barber, who is tied for 67th with a score of +5. She had a mixed round, with fewer birdies than in the first but matched her bogey count along with a double bogey.

Three other Sooners are in a tie for 80th place at 6-over: junior MaKayla Tyrrell, senior Reagan Chaney, and freshman Audrey Rischer. Rischer stood out in the second round, scoring a 1-under 71, which included two birdies on her front nine.

Junior Gracie Mayo rounds out the team in 150th place, struggling with a score of +18.

The Sooners will need a strong performance in the third round, as they are 10 shots away from the cut line. The top 15 teams will advance to the final stroke play round, with the top eight moving on to match play for the national championship.

In the wider tournament picture, Stanford leads with a score of 5-under, the only team currently under par.
