University of Oklahoma’s Sooner Stars Dominate Round One at Corvallis Regional!

Sooners Golf Team Shines at NCAA Corvallis Regional

The Oklahoma Sooners golf team made a strong start at the NCAA Corvallis Regional on Monday. They ended the first round with a score of 9-under par, putting them in a tie for second place. This performance puts them in a good position to qualify for the NCAA Championships, looking to extend their impressive streak to 15 consecutive appearances.

Oklahoma is the No. 3 seed in this 13-team regional. They are currently tied with the top-seeded Arkansas, who also scored 9-under. Purdue leads the pack at 12-under, while host Oregon State is just behind at 8-under. Notably, Charlotte and San Diego are in the top five at 4-under.

One standout player was Ryder Cowan, a junior and Haskins Award candidate. He shot a remarkable 4-under 67, placing him in second overall for the day. Cowan is looking for his third career victory and is just one stroke behind Washington’s Emil Borrestuen Herstad, who leads with 5-under 66.

Another solid performer was sophomore Clark Van Gaalen, who finished the day at 3-under 68. He’s striving for his first top-five finish of the season.

Jase Summy and PJ Maybank III contributed with rounds of 1-under 70, putting them in a tie for 22nd. Summy’s round featured five birdies, while Maybank played consistently well. Summy is now just two rounds away from breaking Drew Goodman’s program record of 96 par-or-better rounds.

Senior Matthew Troutman finished strong with a birdie on the 18th hole, ending at even-par 71, tied for 33rd.

The NCAA Regional is one of six sites determining who will qualify for the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, from May 29 to June 3. The top five teams here, along with the best individual from a non-advancing team, will move on.

As the competition heats up, golf fans are eagerly watching how this talented group of Sooners will perform in the coming rounds.
