Portland Pilots Shine at the Lewis & Clark Electric Forest Open
On Saturday, at Griswold Stadium, the Portland Pilots showed remarkable skill and determination at the Lewis & Clark Electric Forest Open. They tallied numerous wins and personal records, highlighting a fantastic day for the team.
In the sprints, the women’s team was unstoppable. Aria Cain sprinted to victory in the 100 meters with a personal best of 12.03 seconds. She wasn’t alone in her achievements; Malia Harvey also made waves, winning the 200 meters in a personal best of 24.97 seconds. Both pushed each other to excel, with Alexis Leao achieving her own personal best in the same race. Rose Perotin won the 400 meters, setting a new record of 58.20 seconds.
Lindsey Kaines led the charge in the 800 meters, finishing first in a personal best of 2:12.33, with Giana Atkinson close behind in second. The women’s 1500 meters saw several athletes set personal records, including Megan Crum and Julia Ferreira.
The men’s distance team also delivered strong results. Nathan Stein clinched first in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:51.49, while others like Giuliano Scasso and Elliot Hawley both set personal bests. In the 5000 meters, Jacob Hupke’s impressive victory with a time of 14:34.73 was a highlight, alongside several teammates who also achieved personal bests.
Looking at participation trends, recent surveys show that interest in college track and field events is on the rise, particularly among younger audiences. This reflects a growing appreciation for the sport, showcasing not just talent, but teamwork and perseverance.
The Pilots plan to maintain this momentum as they head to the Pacific Open on March 28 in Forest Grove. With their dedication and hard work, there’s plenty to look forward to in the upcoming competitions.
