BERLIN — San Diego volleyball faced a tough match against Team Chinese Taipei, losing 3-1 at the World University Games. This marks their second loss in the tournament, despite a strong effort from Isabel Clark.
The game started with Team USA leading 8-4, thanks to a service ace from Clark. However, Team Chinese Taipei turned the tide, ultimately winning the first set 25-23. After dropping the first set, Team USA rebounded, winning the second set 25-21. Kills from Kennedy Osunsanmi and Nemo Beach played a key role in this victory.
In the third and fourth sets, Team USA struggled. They stayed competitive early on, but Chinese Taipei pulled ahead in crucial moments, taking both sets with scores of 25-19.
Despite the loss, there were standout performances on defense. Olivia Bennett and Kylie Munday combined for 27 digs, and Team USA dominated at the net with 14 blocks to Chinese Taipei’s 1.
Looking ahead, Team USA will face Team Chile on Sunday at 5:00 AM PST. This game marks the start of the Women’s Placing 9-16 round.
The World University Games, taking place from July 16-27, 2025, will see about 8,500 student-athletes from over 150 countries. San Diego volleyball will represent the U.S. as the sole women’s volleyball team in this prestigious event, highlighting the growing importance of international competitions in promoting sports at the collegiate level.
