COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina (USC) has declared no threat after investigating reports of a possible active shooter near a library. This alert came just after similar incidents caused chaos at Villanova University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

On Sunday, USC students were advised to shelter in place while police looked into unverified claims of an active shooter. Eventually, officials confirmed there was no shooter and no shots had been fired. University spokesman Jeff Stensland explained that the initial alert was issued as a precaution, with police searching the library diligently.

During the evacuation, two minor injuries were reported. The university alerted students around 6:45 p.m., urging them to evacuate the area near Thomas Cooper Library, seek shelter, and barricade if necessary.
