University of Stirling & Chengdu University: Celebrating the First Graduating Class of a Dynamic Partnership!

Today, 174 graduates marked a significant achievement as the first class from the partnership between the University of Stirling and Chengdu University in China celebrated their graduation. Degrees awarded included BA (Hons) Sport Studies, BSc (Hons) Data Science, and BA (Hons) Digital Media.

This unique partnership, initiated in 2021, allows students to earn two degrees—one from each university—after four years, provided they meet the academic requirements. Currently, over 1,000 students are enrolled in this collaborative program.

The graduation ceremony took place in Chengdu, attended by notable figures such as University of Stirling Chancellor Lord McConnell and Chengdu University’s President, Professor Dr. Zhu Ming.

Professor Sir Gerry McCormac, Principal of Stirling, expressed pride in this milestone. He emphasized the shared values of both institutions in fostering innovation and excellence. McCormac stated, “Our graduates possess the skills to create a positive impact in their fields and beyond.”

This partnership is particularly significant for its focus on sport. Stirling is recognized as Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, while Chengdu played a vital role in hosting the 31st FISU World University Games in 2023. Chengdu will also host the World Games in August, further solidifying its status in international sports.

Interestingly, data from recent surveys show that international educational collaborations are becoming more popular, with a 30% increase in partnerships over the last five years. These initiatives are vital for preparing graduates to thrive in a globalized job market.

Looking ahead, students in this partnership can choose to study at Stirling, adding even more global perspective to their education. There’s growing enthusiasm on social media, with many graduates sharing their experiences and celebrating their accomplishments.

As a new cohort enters the program, there’s excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead. The collaboration between the universities not only benefits students academically but also encourages cultural exchange and broadens horizons.

This celebration marks a new chapter, not just for the graduates but for the educational bond between two countries. It’s a reminder of the transformative power of education and the importance of global partnerships.
