Knoxville, TN – Two standout players from the Vols baseball team received national recognition this week. Sophomore shortstop Manny Marin and freshman pitcher Cam Appenzeller were highlighted for their impressive performances.
Marin is now one of 50 players nominated for the Brooks Wallace Award, which honors the top shortstop in college baseball. He’s made a significant impact at the plate, boasting a batting average of .295, along with seven doubles, seven home runs, and 30 RBIs. Defensively, he’s also among the best in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), with only three errors and a .979 fielding percentage over 143 chances, combined with a team-high 88 assists.
Appenzeller is making waves as a freshman, being named on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. His stats are impressive: a 5-1 record, one save, and a standout 2.79 ERA. He’s also performed exceptionally well in terms of strikeouts, racking up 44 while walking just seven across 38.2 innings pitched. Notably, Appenzeller started conference play without allowing a single run in his first 21.2 innings.
