Texas Men’s Golf Team Shines at NCAA Bryan Regional
The No. 4 Texas Men’s Golf team made waves at the NCAA Bryan Regional, finishing with an impressive score of 38-under 538 (265-273). This victory secured their spot in the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California, from May 29 to June 3. Senior Luke Potter stood out, achieving individual medalist honors with a score of 17-under 199 (67-64-68).
This win extends Texas’s remarkable streak of NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship appearances to 19. They’ve held this title since 2008. Oklahoma follows with 14 consecutive appearances. Texas has now claimed 11 regional championships since the NCAA implemented the qualifying system in 1989, showcasing their consistent excellence in the sport.
At the Bryan Regional, 14 teams competed. The top five teams and the lowest individual from a non-qualifying team advanced to the NCAA Championship. Weather concerns led to a last-minute format change, allowing the tournament to finish one day early.
Starting in fourth place, the Longhorns rallied to clinch the team title by five strokes. They recorded a total of 45-under 819 (281-265-273), tying a school record for the best 54-hole score in an NCAA Regional, last matched in 2016.
Tuesday proved to be a standout day for the Longhorns, as they broke the record for the lowest 18-hole team score in an NCAA Regional with a dazzling 23-under 265 in the morning round. Potter led with an 8-under 64, supported by strong performances from his teammates.
Potter’s victory marked his second individual win in his collegiate career, having previously won The Hayt in March 2025. He finished one stroke ahead of Wheaton Ennis from Texas A&M. Notably, all five Longhorns ended up in the top 14 of the individual leaderboard.
Potter’s performance is notable not just for his personal achievement but also for the broader context and significance in college golf. He became the eighth Longhorn to earn individual medalist honors at an NCAA Regional. His score of 17-under 199 ranks second in program history, just behind Doug Ghim’s 17-under 196 from the 2018 NCAA Raleigh Regional. Impressively, Potter managed only two bogeys over 54 holes.
