ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s tennis team had a great day in Florida, securing two victories. They first defeated St. Norbert College 6-1, followed by a 5-2 win against Colby Sawyer College.
In the match against St. Norbert, the Blugolds started strong. They won all three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The number one pair, Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckjy, won 6-2. The team of Sam Murillo and Billy Hughes matched that score at number two, while Andrew Mueller and Ethan Leeser wrapped it up with a 6-3 win at number three.
During singles play, the Blugolds shined again, winning five out of six matches. Billy Hughes claimed victory at number three with a score of 6-2, 7-5. Logan Carroll won at number six (6-2, 6-3). Sam Murillo and Danylo Ripeckjy both battled hard and secured wins in three sets. Ethan Leeser contributed a solid win at number five with scores of 6-1, 7-6.
Next, the Blugolds faced Colby Sawyer College, winning two out of three doubles matches. Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckjy again triumphed 6-2, while Andrew Mueller and Ethan Leeser won decisively with a 6-0 score.
In singles, the team secured four victories. Both Pablo Rincon and Ethan Leeser won their matches in straight sets (6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively). Billy Hughes and Emilio Monge also won in three sets, sealing the overall win for the Blugolds.
