Content warning: mentions of sexual assault.
On December 7, 2025, Villanova University sent out a safety alert after a female guest reported being raped on campus. The incident took place in a residence hall on December 6, 2025, involving a male student living on campus. The university’s Department of Public Safety received the report on December 7.
The alert noted that the two individuals knew each other, which often adds complexity to situations like this. The university emphasized the importance of respecting the victim’s privacy and ensuring the ongoing investigation remains unaffected. “Additional information cannot be shared at this time,” the alert stated.
This notification falls under the Clery Act, which mandates public disclosure of serious crimes on college campuses to keep students informed and safe. The university explained that many factors influence whether an alert is sent following incidents of sexual assault. However, sending an alert does not lessen the seriousness of any individual case.
In addition to the alert, the university provided resources to support victims and options for reporting incidents of sexual misconduct. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, nearly one in five women and one in 71 men experience rape in their lifetimes. This alarming statistic highlights the necessity for ongoing discussions and education to combat sexual violence, especially in educational settings.
