Unleashing India’s Vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047: A Collective National Mission, Says FM Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasized that India’s goal to become a ‘Viksit Bharat’ or developed nation by 2047 is more than just a dream; it’s a common mission for everyone in the country. She highlighted this vision during her talk at Stanford University, focusing on creating inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven growth.

Sitharaman pointed out that India has made remarkable progress, moving up from being the tenth largest economy to the fifth largest in the world. This growth indicates India’s rising influence on the global stage.

A significant part of India’s transformation is its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The Finance Minister noted that various initiatives are aimed at improving women’s safety, health, and financial independence. For example, maternity leave for working women has been extended to six months, a change driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Additionally, property registration in women’s names comes with tax benefits. Under the Poshan Scheme, food and nutrition support is provided to pregnant women and new mothers, showcasing a commitment to their well-being.

During a previous meeting with Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, Sitharaman discussed India’s evolving digital landscape. This discussion highlighted how the Digital India initiative is cementing the country’s role as a leader in digital technology. Kurian praised India’s efforts in artificial intelligence and stressed the importance of global connectivity, including through land and sea cables. Google Cloud plans to operate on carbon-free energy by 2030, and they are looking at new investment opportunities in India.

By fostering local partnerships and technology development, the Finance Minister encouraged businesses to contribute to the ‘Make In India’ initiative, which aims to boost local production and innovation.

As India continues its journey towards becoming a developed nation, these changes reflect a strong commitment to progress and inclusivity. The journey is ambitious, but with a shared national spirit, the goal of a thriving and equitable society is achievable.
