I’ve spent about five or six hours diving into Pokémon Legends: Z-A and two of those were all about finding Raichunite X and Raichunite Y. These Mega Stones let my favorite Pokémon, Raichu, finally Mega Evolve. For ages, I wished Game Freak would give him a power-up, and now he has two options. I was all in for the X form before the game came out, and now that I’ve seen it in action, I’m thrilled. Raichu zooms around like Superman!
Raichu never got a Mega form back in Pokémon X and Y. It often felt like Game Freak prioritized Pikachu, who’s way more popular. Pikachu received exclusive upgrades like Gigantamax in Sword and Shield and Z-Moves in Sun and Moon. Raichu only had a floaty, psychic version in Alola, which I found frustrating. But now, the original Raichu can soar, thanks to Mega Evolution.
The Pokédex says Mega Raichu X can float because of the electromagnetic pull from its tails. I imagined it would hover upright, perhaps looking a bit silly. But seeing it fly with its arm stretched out is amazing. I’m totally hooked!
This isn’t just for show. In battles, Mega Raichu X can target aerial enemies and knock off Mega Shards from tall places. It focuses on physical attacks, while the Y form specializes in special moves. Mega Raichu X remains an Electric-type, but it might gain the Levitate ability that shields it from Ground-type moves. Some fans feel both forms resemble Pikachu too much, with X borrowing its colors and Y mimicking its shape. But I love how it showcases Raichu’s evolution. The whole family dynamic is really cool, and Mega Raichu X adds an exciting twist to its legacy. I hope to see this form in the anime soon, showcasing epic moments of it flying and battling. Until then, I’ll use my Mega Raichu X to protect Lumiose City!
