Unleashing Speed: Discover Punjab’s Top Racing Livestock and Their Luxe Lifestyle | Ludhiana News – The Times of India

Ludhiana is buzzing with excitement as the Kila Raipur Rural Olympics makes a comeback after ten years. This isn’t just any event; it spotlights the impressive lives of racing bulls that are more like elite athletes than ordinary livestock.

Meet Satnam Singh, a dedicated bull owner whose stars—Rocket, Bugla, and Jaadu—are treated like royalty. Satnam says, “We care for our bulls 24/7. They’re family.” Their daily meals resemble those of a luxury health retreat, including fresh sugarcane and orange juice, banana shakes with almonds and ghee, and herbal concoctions to boost immunity. For a quick energy kick, the bulls munch on dried grapes and black chickpeas.

Beyond a fancy diet, fitness is key. Satnam takes his bulls for long walks twice a day on soft roads—each walk lasting an hour or two. “There’s no price tag on passion,” he adds.

The sport itself has changed significantly. Racing carts have evolved from heavy wooden structures (weighing up to 60 kg) to lightweight iron ones, weighing just 20-25 kg. This shift allows bulls to run faster in short bursts, perfect for high-speed races. Traditional bulls, bred for endurance, are now trained for quick sprints lasting about 20 seconds.

Racing is a family tradition for many participants. Sunny Majri from Majri village states, “This is our third generation racing here. We’ve been preparing for this moment forever.”

Some owners are also using the event to address concerns about animal rights. Ranjit Singh, a champion from 2002, insists on the care his bulls receive. “How can it be cruelty when you love something this much?” he questions. He employs full-time staff to monitor his bulls’ health constantly.

While the excitement is palpable, it’s important to reflect on the trends surrounding such events. In recent years, animal welfare discussions have grown online, with advocates often sharing concerns about racing practices. Yet, owners argue that their commitment to their animals counters these claims, emphasizing affection over exploitation.

As the races get underway, they not only celebrate speed and skill but also reflect deep cultural ties. This blend of tradition, love for animals, and community spirit makes the Kila Raipur Rural Olympics a unique event, showcasing both change and continuity.
