Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti: Uniting India’s Youth
On May 28, 2025, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) participated in a nationwide event called “Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti.” This initiative, led by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), aimed to inspire youth across India to unite for a common goal.
About 1,000 students from BAOU gathered to take the National Youth Pledge. Their commitment was part of a bigger vision promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which emphasizes self-reliance and national pride—concepts encapsulated in Atmanirbhar Bharat and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
This event occurred simultaneously in five locations across India, showcasing a spirit of solidarity and patriotism among young people. Dr. Ami Upadhyay, the university’s vice chancellor, highlighted the importance of youth leading with heart and purpose, urging them to take this pledge seriously. “Every young person should make this commitment with all their heart,” she said.
Ahmedabad’s mayor, Smt. Pratibha Jain, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that India’s youth play a crucial role in the nation’s future. “By 2047, the vision for a developed India lies in your hands,” she remarked, referencing the ambitious goals set by the Prime Minister.
Statistics show that youth engagement in civic initiatives has been rising. A recent survey indicated that 70% of young people in India are keen to contribute positively to society. This enthusiasm reflects a growing recognition among the youth of their role as change-makers.
In historical contexts, past pledges like the one during the Indian independence movement served to galvanize a generation toward a common purpose. Today’s youth are similarly motivated, using platforms like social media to encourage participation and share their commitments, creating a viral trend of patriotism and community involvement.
Dr. Upadhyay’s words resonate across borders: “Patriotism transcends regions. Together, we can build an inclusive Bharat.” This sentiment captures the essence of the gathering, which sought to remind students that their contributions matter.
The event symbolizes more than just a pledge; it’s a renewed call for unity and proactive involvement in nation-building. As we strive toward a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the commitment of young people like those at BAOU is fundamental to achieving that vision.
