Sony is rolling out a new firmware update for the PS Portal, enhancing the experience for gamers around the globe. This update introduces a 1080p High Quality mode, offering better visuals for PS5 games on the handheld device. By prioritizing a smooth and high-fidelity experience, this mode uses a higher bitrate than the previous 1080p Standard mode.
To access the new mode, just head to the Quick Menu, select Max Resolution, and choose 1080p High Quality.
The update also improves cloud streaming. According to a recent post on the PS Blog, the following enhancements are included:
- Improved Product Detail Page: When you select “Stream” on game bundles, a new user interface will let you choose a specific game from that bundle.
- Game Invites: You’ll now receive clear notifications on-screen for game invites while streaming, ensuring you stay connected with friends.
- Enhanced Trophy Notifications: Trophy unlocks will now showcase the trophy name and image, and platinum trophies will come with a special animation, adding more fun to your achievements.
- Refined Search Screen: The search interface is smoother, with the on-screen keyboard appearing instantly when you start a search.
Online trends show that Sony’s PS Portal is gaining traction, with over 50% of users subscribing to PS Plus Premium for cloud streaming. In fact, there’s been a remarkable 162% increase in monthly users year-over-year as of January.
This rise in popularity highlights a shift in how gamers engage with their consoles, especially as cloud gaming becomes more mainstream. Just a few years ago, cloud services were a novelty, but now they’re becoming a staple for many players.
In the gaming community, reactions are mixed. Some users are thrilled about the new features and the improved streaming quality. Others still prefer traditional gaming setups but acknowledge that the PS Portal is a convenient option for on-the-go gaming.
