Unlock a World of Learning: Join OLLI’s Exciting Spring Showcase at the University of Alabama!

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Alabama kicked off 2026 with a vibrant Spring Showcase. Older adults gathered at the Bryant Conference Center to explore exciting new plans.

Jennifer Hayes, the Director of OLLI, emphasized that learning has no age limit. “Members engage in discussions about current events and history. They also enjoy hands-on activities that keep their minds sharp,” Hayes said. “Lifelong learning fuels growth and connection.”

While OLLI primarily serves those aged 55 and up, it encourages anyone interested to join. The showcase highlighted upcoming classes, field trips, and social events tailored for members.

This year, OLLI is centering many activities around the 250th anniversary of the United States. “We’re focusing on the country’s history, food, culture, and fashion from this significant milestone,” Hayes explained.

Recent data highlights the benefits of lifelong learning. A report from the World Health Organization suggests that engaging in educational activities can lead to better mental health and cognitive function in seniors.

OLLI also offers both in-person events in Birmingham and Gadsden, plus online options to cater to different needs.
