New Delhi: Indian Railways is setting new records in producing General and non-AC coaches. This boost aims to make travel more affordable for everyone, as stated by the Ministry of Railways on Tuesday.
The production plan for this financial year includes 4,838 new LHB General and non-AC coaches. For the next year, the goal is 4,802 coaches. This initiative is part of a larger effort to meet the growing demand for train travel while improving safety and comfort.
Amrit Bharat Express trains are a great example of this. These entirely non-AC services offer sleeper and general class options at low prices. In 2025, 13 new trains were launched, bringing the total to 30. Additionally, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services are enhancing regional connectivity with routes between Bhuj–Ahmedabad and Jaynagar–Patna.
To ensure that tickets go to true passengers, Indian Railways has tightened its verification process. Users must now confirm their identity through Aadhaar to book Tatkal tickets. As a result of these efforts, over 5.73 crore suspicious IRCTC accounts have been deactivated to keep the e-ticketing system secure.
Passenger safety is crucial, with 84% of the budget for safety measures already utilized this year. Train accidents have dramatically decreased from 135 in 2014–15 to just 11 in the first part of this year. The budget for safety has nearly tripled to ₹1,16,470 crore, and fog safety devices have expanded from 90 in 2014 to 25,939 in 2025.
This year, Indian Railways also ran over 43,000 special train trips to help manage festive and seasonal crowds. Major events like Maha Kumbh and Holi saw thousands of additional trains, making travel smoother during busy times.
Furthermore, 76 railway stations are being upgraded to include new passenger holding areas. Following the successful launch of Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi, these areas will provide amenities like toilets, ticketing services, and clean drinking water. The aim is to finish these by the 2026 festival season to enhance travel comfort.
With ongoing improvements and a focus on safety, Indian Railways is paving the way for a better travel experience. As more people opt for trains over other modes of transport, this upgrade comes just in time to meet the rising expectation for efficient and safe travel.
