Magic: The Gathering is launching a unique collection of PlayStation-themed cards in its upcoming Secret Lair Superdrop. This special release is set for October 27, matching the buzz of MagicCon Atlanta.
Sony and Wizards of the Coast unveiled this exciting collaboration through a post on the PlayStation Blog. Fans can expect cards inspired by beloved video games like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ghost of Tsushima.
Each card is carefully designed to reflect iconic characters and places from these games. According to a Sony vice president, the collaboration involved close work with renowned game studios like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions to capture their essence with stunning art.
The Last of Us series is prominently featured, including Legendary Creature cards like Joel, Resolute Survivor, and Ellie, Brick Master. For God of War fans, there are cards depicting both the Greek and Norse versions of Kratos, along with Atreus wielding his bow.
Additionally, two significant cards stand out: Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn and Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima also make an appearance.
Wizards of the Coast has previously ventured into other gaming worlds, with popular collaborations like those from Fallout, Assassin’s Creed, and Sonic the Hedgehog. This trend seems to resonate well with fans, highlighting a growing interest in crossover themes.
In a recent survey, 67% of gamers reported they’d be eager to purchase collectible cards from crossovers with video game franchises they love. This underscores the potential for this Magic and PlayStation partnership.
Magic: The Gathering fans have a lot to look forward to. Besides the Superdrop, Wizards of the Coast shared plans for several upcoming expansions, including The Hobbit, Marvel Super Heroes, and a Star Trek set.
