Xbox Game Pass Ultimate recently saw a hefty price jump of 50% in the U.S. It now costs $29.99 a month, up from $19.99. That adds up to an extra $120 a year. Ouch!

If you want to avoid the price hike, consider stacking your membership to its maximum of 36 months before the change goes into effect. Alternatively, you might just decide to cancel.

Interestingly, Amazon has slightly reduced its Game Pass pricing. You can snag a three-month subscription for $56.99, down from $59.99. It’s not often you see a drop when others are raising prices! You can also find one-month codes for $19.99, effectively $10 off the usual price.

Stacking your membership comes with a cost, though. Filling your account to the limit would set you back around $683.88. That’s a lot to pay upfront, especially given the recent economic changes. To put it in perspective, at the new monthly rate, three years of Game Pass Ultimate would now cost $1,079.64.

By buying in now, you might save up to $395.76 compared to the new pricing over three years. That said, it’s a big leap to pay that much for a service that just raised prices.

These new prices take effect immediately for new subscribers and on November 4 for current ones. Microsoft also announced the addition of more than 45 new games to Game Pass.

Some retailers, like GameStop and Walmart, have opted not to follow Microsoft’s price increase yet. This might be a good time to explore your options there.
