Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is finally set to launch on October 21, 2025. With this news comes an announcement that accessing two of its six clans will come at a cost. The clans function like character classes and shape gameplay. So, they’re pretty significant!
If you want to play as the Lasombra or Toreador clans, you’ll need to buy the Shadows and Silk add-on pack for about £18.69/€21.99/$21.99. Unfortunately, if you don’t purchase this pack, you’ll only get to experience the default four: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, and Ventrue.
Choosing a clan affects the game’s difficulty. I recently played as Brujah, a clan geared towards brawling, which presents a normal challenge. The Ventrue clan, known for mental prowess, is easier to handle. Alternatively, the stealthy Banu Haqim offers a tougher experience. More insights on clans can be found on the Bloodlines 2 website, though details on the Toreador and Lasombra clans are lacking.
Given that Vampire: The Masquerade has its roots in tabletop role-playing, there’s a wealth of lore accessible about these clans. The Lasombra are known for their shadowy manipulation and ties to religion, while the Toreador are celebrated for their enchanting seduction. Who wouldn’t want to be that kind of vampire? It’s unfortunate to have to pay extra for these options.
Interestingly, the Shadows and Silk pack is included in the Premium Edition, priced at £74.99/€89.99/$89.99, which also comes with the cosmetic Santa Monica Memories pack. However, I suggest holding off on rushing to buy it right away. After playing it for a few hours, I have my reservations.
This game has faced many hurdles during development, and it seems the developers opted to prioritize action over the deeper role-playing experience fans expected. While the combat feels fast and intense, there’s a sense of missing depth. It might be smart to wait and see how reviews shape up closer to launch.
Did you know that about 70% of gamers prefer immersive storytelling in RPGs? This shows just how important character depth and clan dynamics are in games like Bloodlines 2. As we get closer to the release date, it will be intriguing to see if the developers address these aspects to meet player expectations.
