MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine-China Friendship Education Study Abroad program is now accepting applications for students in grades 10-12 at Muscatine High School or those enrolled at Muscatine Community College.

This exciting program offers students a chance to dive into Chinese culture, language, and green energy science while forming international friendships. The four-week adventure kicks off in Beijing at the end of June, followed by a group journey to Hangzhou.
Students will stay at Wanxiang Polytechnic University. For three weeks, they will learn about Chinese language and culture and participate in seminars focused on renewable energy and sustainability. The program also includes field trips and partnerships with student ambassadors from Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic, who will guide students through workshops and tours.
Tentative travel dates are planned from the end of June until the end of July. One previous participant shared, “This opportunity helps you learn about yourself and challenges your worldview. It can be scary but really rewarding.”
Applications are open until February 18 through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine’s scholarship portal. You don’t need prior knowledge of Chinese, but students will be responsible for passport fees, personal expenses, and a $200 nonrefundable deposit after being selected. All other costs are covered.
