With iOS 18.4, Apple is enhancing how you can customize your iPhone. There are new options for setting default apps based on your location.

Translation and Navigation Defaults
Apple has allowed some control over default apps in settings for years. Now, this feature is growing with iOS 18.4.
One exciting addition is the Translation category. This gives users in the US and worldwide the choice to switch from Apple’s Translate app to alternatives like Google Translate.
People in the EU will see an additional feature, Navigation. This lets EU users change their default maps app from Apple Maps to others like Google Maps.
While it’s unfortunate that Navigation options are only for EU users, those in the EU can switch to their preferred navigation app.
When you set a default app, it will handle related tasks throughout your device. For instance, if you set Waze as your navigation app, addresses sent in iMessage will open in Waze.
You can change your default apps by going to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
