Super Bowl 59 is on Sunday, February 9, and it’s almost as big for eating as Thanksgiving! This year, Americans are expected to spend a whopping $17.3 billion on food, drinks, and more for the big game. That’s more than the $17.2 billion spent last year!
If you’re hosting a watch party, it’s time to gather your snacks. Chicken wings are a must-have. The National Chicken Council estimates that about 1.4 billion wings will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. That’s nearly four wings for every person in the United States!
However, wings will cost a bit more this year, with average prices around $3.26 per pound for fresh and $3.17 per pound for frozen varieties.
Chili is another crowd-pleaser. Ground beef prices are climbing, and you might pay $5 to $13 per pound based on the type you choose.
Pizza is also a hit during the game, with about 12.5 million pizzas expected to be ordered. You can make your own for about $4 to $5 or order from a local shop for around $15 each.
Don’t forget the chips and dips! From salsa to guacamole, there’s a lot to pick from, and store brands usually have the best prices. However, be cautious about guacamole, as avocado prices have gone up this year.
Your guests will want drinks too. At the grocery store, a 2-liter bottle of soda costs about $2.11. But at the game, you could pay $6 to $9 for a small cup. Beer is around $1.75 per pint at the store, but it can cost between $14 and $18 at the stadium.
On average, an adult is expected to spend between $85 and $90 on food and drinks for the Super Bowl at home, according to the National Retail Federation. You can save by having guests bring a dish, opting for store brands, and making your own drinks like iced tea or lemonade.
