Unlock Summer Fun: Exciting Fitness Activities to Enjoy on Campus!

The Center for Healthy Living wants you to get active this summer with some fun fitness events! Open to everyone in the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community, including students and staff, these events are totally free.

TRY-athlon Challenge (July 7 – Aug. 3)

Get ready for a unique twist on the ironman triathlon! Over four weeks, challenge yourself to complete the distances of either a full or half ironman. You can walk or run the miles, bike inside or outside, and even use a rowing machine for the swimming part.

To join, simply email the Center for Healthy Living with your name and whether you’re doing a full or half ironman by July 3. A full ironman means running 26.2 miles, biking 112 miles, and rowing 2.4 miles, while a half ironman is 13.1 miles running, 56 miles biking, and 1.2 miles rowing. Everyone who finishes gets entered into a raffle for two $50 gift cards to the UNMC bookstore.

Field Club Trail Bike & Walk Event (July 8)

Join us for a walk or bike ride on the Field Club Trail on Tuesday, July 8, at 5 p.m. Gather outside the Center for Healthy Living, and choose how far you want to go!

Cyclists will ride to Karen Park and back, totaling an 11-mile round trip. Don’t forget your bike, helmet, and some water! You can also rent bikes from Heartland B-Cycle stations on campus, including one nearby.

If you prefer to walk, the trail to Vinton Street offers a straightforward four-mile round trip. Wear comfy shoes and bring water.

This event is open to all and registration isn’t necessary! Restrooms at the Center for Healthy Living will be available for everyone.

Lunch and Play (Tuesdays and Thursdays until Aug. 7)

Take a break and join us for some midday fun! Every Tuesday and Thursday, from noon to 2 p.m., we have games like cornhole, ladderball, spikeball, Kan Jam, and yard darts set up at the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza.

Research shows that engaging in physical activities during work hours can boost productivity and improve mood. According to a study by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, just a little movement can enhance focus and creativity.

For any questions, reach out to the Center for Healthy Living at 402-559-5254. Let’s make the most of this summer together!
