Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s Inspiring Journey
Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian astronaut, recently completed a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). He believes that India’s space journey can help achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. During the opening of Sky Route Aerospace’s new campus in Hyderabad, he emphasized the importance of involving the younger generation, especially Gen Z, in this exciting venture.
The new campus, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video link, spans around 200,000 square feet. It’s designed for creating and testing launch vehicles, aimed at producing one orbital rocket monthly. This facility signals a significant step in India’s growing space capabilities.
In an interview, Shukla shared his experience of transitioning from an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot to becoming an astronaut. He described how the decision to apply for the astronaut program was instinctive. “Everyone dreams of moving from the sky to space,” he said.
Training to become an astronaut was a tough but rewarding journey. Shukla underwent rigorous preparation in Russia, India, and the United States. Each country offered different training methods with the same end goal: to prepare astronauts for life in space.
When asked about challenges aboard the ISS, he noted that the first few days were the hardest as his body adjusted to the new environment. However, he quickly adapted and began focusing on his duties.
For the younger generation, Shukla has a motivating message: “Be excited and curious.” He feels that India’s space endeavors are not just about exploration but also about contributing to the nation’s development goals. He encourages young people to embrace this responsibility and see their role in shaping India’s future.
Recent surveys indicate a growing interest in space among the youth. A poll showed that over 70% of young people in India aspire to work in science and technology fields related to space. This interest aligns with Shukla’s vision and indicates a bright future for India’s space exploration efforts.
Shubhanshu Shukla’s story is a reminder that our aspirations can lead to amazing achievements. Engaging the youth in these ambitions could transform the dreams of today into the realities of tomorrow.
