Unlock the Power of Automation: Google Home Update Introduces Smart Button Support!

Google Home is stepping up its game with a new feature that allows smart buttons to work in home automations. This update is part of version 4.8 and makes it easier to control devices around your home.

Smart buttons have gained popularity recently, especially with the rise of Matter, a universal smart home connectivity standard. Until now, these buttons didn’t work with Google Home, but that’s changing.

In this update, you can use smart buttons to trigger actions in your home, like turning lights on or off. We’ve been testing IKEA’s “BILRESA” buttons, but results are still pending—stay tuned for updates!

This update also enhances automations in some exciting ways. New features include:

  • Triggering actions based on humidity levels.
  • Starting automations when a robot vacuum docks.
  • Using battery status for conditions, such as when a device is charging or low on battery.
  • Using binary states like open/closed or leak/no leak for supported devices.

Google has highlighted some specific automation examples. For instance, you can set an action to trigger when humidity reaches above 60%, or if a vacuum docks. You can even tweak smart lights to specific colors, like setting the living room light to blue.

Additionally, there’s good news for Nest Cam users. Google has introduced a foundational fix to resolve the frustrating “video not available” errors that many have experienced.

This update is a promising shift for Google Home users looking to streamline their smart home experience. As more devices become compatible and features expand, users can expect even greater control and convenience.
