Hyderabad: CapCut, a popular video editing app, has teamed up with Gemini. This new partnership allows users to edit images and videos directly within the Gemini app using CapCut’s powerful tools.
In a post on X, CapCut shared their vision. They believe that as creative workflows become more connected, the future of creation will be conversational and easy to use. However, they haven’t shared details about how the interface will look or what editing features will be available. The launch date for this exciting feature hasn’t been announced either, but CapCut promised it’s just the beginning. They hinted at more collaborative tools coming for Gemini users.
This partnership is part of a bigger push by Google, which has recently joined forces with other platforms like Canva and Instacart to enhance its Gemini app. These integrations help Google’s AI chatbot compete with services like ChatGPT, which already offers various connected tools.
It’s worth noting that CapCut has included AI editing features since last year. The app incorporates Google’s Nano Banana image models and Veo video models, enabling users to create and edit content seamlessly.
Interestingly, this isn’t CapCut’s first appearance in a Google product. Last year, Google Photos featured an option to edit with CapCut, allowing users to transfer images easily. However, this feature wasn’t available for Indian users due to a ban on CapCut and other Chinese apps in the country following security concerns in 2020.
The Indian government cited national security and data privacy reasons for the ban, leading to restrictions on many Chinese applications, including TikTok. This ban falls under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, highlighting the ongoing tensions between India and China.
Due to this ban, the new integration with Gemini may not reach users in India. Creators there might have to explore other editing options. Fortunately, several alternatives are available, including InShot, InVideo AI, and Canva, which offer similar features to CapCut.
While social media buzzes about this new partnership, it raises questions about accessibility and innovation in creative tools. As technology continues to evolve, keeping a close eye on these developments will be essential, especially for creators looking for the latest and greatest in editing tools.
