Unlock Your Digital Potential: Free Tech Classes for Seniors in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Older adults in San Antonio are discovering how to use technology in their everyday lives through free classes offered in the city.

These classes take place in senior centers, libraries, and other community spaces. They cover a range of topics, including how to stay safe online, download apps, and find trustworthy information.

Darryl Greer from AARP’s Older Adults Technology Services emphasizes the importance of helping seniors develop tech skills.

“It’s vital for older adults to learn how to use technology, whether for improving health, managing finances, or just staying connected with family,” Greer explained.

Remedios Holder is one of those attending classes at the Doris Griffin Senior One Stop Center. She has learned how to keep her passwords safe.

“Every day is a chance to learn, no matter your age,” she said.

Holder also enjoys the fun side of tech; she uses her skills for entertainment.

“I love playing games. I’ve picked up the basics on my iPad and cellphone,” she added.

Suzanne Garcia attends classes to learn about grocery shopping apps and keep her skills current.

After experiencing a hacking incident, she is cautious with her online activities.

“I use MyChart, but avoid banking online since I had a bad experience with hacking. I’ve also learned to use Facebook and Instagram,” Garcia mentioned.

For those interested in more tech classes, AARP offers online sessions for seniors at seniorplanet.org. You can also find a schedule for in-person classes there.
