The American University of Armenia (AUA) is excited to launch its new Bachelor of Science in Economics program, starting in Fall 2025. This program is approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has the backing of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. It aims to provide students with a strong grounding in economic theory, quantitative tools, and critical thinking, all while preparing them for careers in both the private and public sectors.
The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Economics (BSE) program is to cultivate professionals who can tackle economic development issues in Armenia and beyond. It emphasizes data-driven decision-making, quality research, and academic excellence. The program prides itself on promoting diversity and inclusion, ensuring that students are ready for leadership roles and further academic pursuits, both domestically and internationally.
AUA President Dr. Bruce Boghosian stated, “This program is a natural progression of our commitment to enhance the economic talent pool in Armenia. We began this journey more than a decade ago with our master’s program in partnership with the Central Bank of Armenia. Our experience and the expertise of our faculty make this next step possible.”
The faculty involved in the BSE program are highly qualified, many holding Ph.D. degrees from prestigious institutions across the globe, including the United States, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. Their combined knowledge of international economic theory and local economic conditions will enrich the learning experience for students.
Dr. Vache Gabrielyan, the Dean of the College of Business and Economics, mentioned that there is a significant interest in the economics program. He noted that both students and employers recognize economics as a highly sought-after field, highlighting the program’s potential for success.
The four-year curriculum will start with fundamental courses that introduce key economic concepts. As students advance, they’ll have the chance to explore specialized topics and electives that expand their understanding of economics. Alongside these courses, students will fulfill general education requirements to ensure they receive a well-rounded education. They will also have the chance to take courses from the Master of Science in Economics program to deepen their knowledge and skills for future roles in academia or the workforce.
