Unlock Your Future: Concord University’s CU Free Program Provides Tuition-Free Education for Eligible West Virginia Students!

Concord University has introduced a helpful program called CU Free, aimed at West Virginia residents. This initiative helps incoming freshmen, current students, and transfer students cover tuition costs, allowing them to earn a four-year degree without paying out-of-pocket.

If you qualify for Pell Grants, you may be eligible for a free education at Concord University. Tammy Brown, the Chief Enrollment Management Officer, explains, “CU Free supports students by providing financial assistance based on their need.” Since its launch in Fall 2019, the program has helped 88 students from various majors, awarding up to $4,255 each year. So far, 37 of these students have graduated and joined the workforce.

“Concord is already an affordable option, but CU Free ensures that everyone can pursue higher education here,” Tammy adds. This program also benefits community college students who received the West Virginia Invests Grant, offering them a smooth transition to a four-year degree at no tuition cost.

To qualify for the CU Free program, students must:

  • Be eligible for Pell Grants
  • Reside in West Virginia and qualify for the WV Higher Education Grant
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0 as an incoming freshman
  • Have a GPA of at least 2.75 as a transfer student
  • File their FAFSA before April 15
  • Enroll full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) at Concord University

CU Free is a last-dollar award, meaning it applies after all other financial aid has been used, and it covers only base tuition. First-year students can renew their financial support for up to four years (or eight semesters). Transfer students can renew for up to eight semesters, based on their transferred credits.

To maintain eligibility for CU Free, students must:

  • Stay enrolled continuously
  • Remain full-time students
  • Continue to qualify for Pell and WV Higher Education Grants
  • Complete FAFSA annually by April 15
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
  • Earn at least 24 credit hours each year
  • Meet satisfactory academic progress
