Over two dozen students have gained real-world insights into logistics through the Gig Program. This summer internship is a partnership between Arrow Electronics Inc. and the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno. It’s a unique chance for students to explore their careers.
Lynda Sohl, Arrow’s logistics learning solutions manager in Reno, describes it as a bridge between education and real-world applications. “Our Gig-terns work on projects that genuinely improve our operations. They’re encouraged to find problems, suggest solutions, and present their ideas. This hands-on experience exposes them to the real challenges of supply chain management,” she says.
Gig-terns dive into data analysis, process improvement, and operational support. During the 10-week program, they receive guidance from company leaders and end with presentations to senior management.
Arrow Electronics, headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, is a global player in electronic components and computing products. It ranks 154 on the 2025 Fortune 500 list and has been recognized for 12 consecutive years as one of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.”
This summer marks the launch of the Gig Program, which offers five positions each year. Sohl notes that students are well-prepared and ready to contribute from day one.
Robyn Brunscher, director of the Supply Chain and Transportation Program, ensures students are equipped with the skills needed for the logistics field. “Robyn makes sure they’re ready to make an impact from the start,” Sohl adds.
Paige Zolldan, assistant director of career services at the College of Business, highlights Arrow’s role in shaping future leaders. “The Gig Internship is not just about building a resume. It’s a chance to gain real experience with a global tech leader. Students develop essential skills, get mentorship, and work on projects that fit their career aspirations.”
Zolldan emphasizes Arrow’s commitment to the community and innovation. “Their partnership with the College shows how industry and education can collaborate to create real change. Arrow is helping to nurture local talent right here in Reno.”
Recent data backs this up. A survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers found that 70% of employers prefer interns who have hands-on experience. Internships like the Gig Program not only provide that experience but also help students build professional networks.
In a time when industries are rapidly evolving, programs like this one are crucial. They not only prepare students for future challenges but also bring fresh ideas to companies. This synergy between students and organizations fosters innovation and growth in the community.
