Florida State University (FSU) is launching an exciting new housing and internship program for students eager to gain real-world experience in Washington, D.C. The FSU DC Study Away Program kicks off in January 2026. This initiative lets students live in a vibrant community while interning at government agencies, corporations, and advocacy groups.

Recently, FSU celebrated this opportunity with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. President Richard McCullough emphasized its importance, stating, “This is our time.” With over 7,500 alumni already in D.C., this program aims to enhance student access to top internships and career opportunities.

FSU’s partnerships with its Division of Student Affairs, the Career Center, and University Housing ensure students have a seamless experience. They can choose to participate in the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Living in university-managed housing, they will continue their studies while building professional networks in one of the world’s most influential cities.

Vice President for Student Affairs, Amy Hecht, described the program as “more than a residence; it’s a launchpad.” This housing initiative not only provides a place to live but also facilitates access to internships that often lead to jobs in government and industry.

Historically, as the demand for skilled professionals in D.C. has grown, universities have increasingly focused on providing such opportunities. In recent years, internships have become a crucial stepping stone for students entering competitive job markets. For instance, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, paid internships increase job offer rates by as much as 27% for candidates.

The new accommodations are conveniently located near the U.S. Capitol, situated in the charming Capitol Hill neighborhood. With a townhouse and two condominiums, students will live in fully furnished units with shared amenities and on-site support.

Students will appreciate not just the comfortable living environment, but also the community aspect. Having a house manager onsite means they will receive immediate assistance, ensuring a smooth transition into life in D.C. The program covers all utilities, Wi-Fi, and laundry—making it a hassle-free choice for students.
