Unlock Your Future: How Iowa State University Prepares Animal Science Graduates for Thriving Careers

Iowa State University is a place where students become “Cyclones in the making.” Graduates leave with the skills to make a difference in the world. They benefit from an education that emphasizes hard work, exciting opportunities, and plenty of hands-on experiences.

Take Torri Burch, for example. She graduated in dairy science and made the most of her time at Iowa State. “I was heavily involved in the ISU Dairy Science Club, the Dairy Judging Team, and more. I even went on a study abroad trip and took on internships and teaching assistant roles,” she shares. These experiences helped her discover her strengths and shape her career path in the dairy industry.

Burch’s insights reflect the journey of many graduates at the Department of Animal Science. Here, learning extends beyond textbooks. Students engage in real-world applications, making the education process dynamic and impactful.

Iowa’s rich agricultural landscape enhances this learning experience. As a leading agricultural state, students immerse themselves in various animal industries, exploring labs, farms, and businesses linked to agriculture. This hands-on approach is a key part of what makes the Department of Animal Science one of the top programs globally.

Graduates enjoy impressive outcomes—99% find careers in fields like animal production and veterinary medicine. Some even delve into research. For instance, Brady Goetz, who earned his PhD in 2023, now works as an Independent Dairy Nutritionist. He designs nutrition plans for cows and helps optimize farm operations, reflecting the strong foundation he built at Iowa State.

Another current student, Nicole Wardenburg, has also made the most of her time at Iowa State. A double major in Animal Science and Agricultural Communications, she’s involved in various clubs and internships. With a full-time position already lined up with Cargill Animal Nutrition before graduation, she’s a testament to the university’s quality education. “I chose Iowa State for its strong agricultural tradition and top-notch Animal Science program,” she says, emphasizing her fulfilling experience.

Iowa State University truly prepares students for success in the animal science field and beyond.
