Unlock Your Future: Join Davenport University’s Career Exploration Day for High School Students!

Davenport University recently welcomed around 75 high school students for a day of career exploration. This event, aimed at students from Coopersville High School, provided a glimpse into college life and the various academic paths offered at Davenport’s W. A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus.

The collaboration between the Donald W. Maine College of Business and the Admissions team created a unique experience. Students learned about different professional fields and got a taste of the college environment.

Davenport faculty were on hand to share their knowledge. Grant Lee (accounting), Bill Ward (marketing), Amanda Alemdar (nursing), and Rob Spohr (management) gave presentations about their careers and the programs at Davenport that can help students pursue similar paths. Bill Ward shared his enthusiasm: “Talking with students about the diverse and exciting career options in marketing and the education they need to reach their goals was a joy.”

One memorable part of the visit was when Coopersville alumni, Lily Erler and Maddie Keefe, now current Davenport students, spoke with the high schoolers. They discussed their own experiences, highlighting why they chose Davenport for its strong business programs and small class sizes. Their advice? Get involved and don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Students also learned about the admissions process, scholarship opportunities, and resources available to them. This clarity helps ease the transition to college life.

After lunch, the group toured the campus, exploring academic buildings and student spaces.

Research from the National Center for Education Statistics shows that students who visit campuses are more likely to enroll. Campus events like this one play a crucial role in helping students feel more comfortable in their future college environments.
