West Virginia University at Parkersburg is excited to announce its Manufacturing Production Operator training program. This short-term program, made in partnership with Constellium, is designed to help individuals step into entry-level manufacturing jobs.
Classes kick off on February 10 and run through April 23, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. Sessions will take place at WVUP’s Jackson County Campus and at Constellium’s facility in Ravenswood.
The training includes hands-on experiences tailored to meet local manufacturers’ needs. Most classes will be onsite at Constellium, where students will learn from Constellium employees. Classes at the Jackson County Campus will cover essential skills, like communication and time management.
According to Abby Campbell, the program coordinator, “Our goal is to offer training that fits the local job market and prepares students for employment.” With manufacturing being a major sector in the region, this program offers a straightforward route into the field.
Students will get a taste of real-world manufacturing alongside classroom instruction. This blend aims to equip them with practical skills and a solid understanding of what employers look for in new hires.
Richelle Murray, talent manager at Constellium, adds, “Working with WVU Parkersburg allows us to deliver a curriculum that is relevant and based on our needs.” Their approach ensures that training aligns with today’s manufacturing workforce demands.
A significant focus of the program is safety. Students will first learn about personal protective equipment and earn OSHA 10 certification. After that, they’ll dive into hands-on training, covering equipment like forklifts and overhead cranes.
While completing the program does not guarantee a job, graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions with local employers, including Chemours, Celanese, and others. The program costs $2,000 per person, but financial assistance is available for qualifying West Virginia residents. Interested individuals need to secure funding or payment plans by January 27, and class size is limited to 12 students.
