Fitbit has just rolled out a new version (4.66) of its Android app, bringing several exciting features. If you’re an Android user, keep an eye out for this update.
What’s New?
With the “Ask Coach” button, you can log your food and hydration more easily. The “Food” option is simplified, focusing on a straightforward search. There’s supposed to be a barcode scanner to help log foods, but it might not be available just yet.
Here’s how to add food by scanning a barcode:
- Go to the Today tab, hit the + > Log > Food.
- Tap Barcode and scan the item’s code. You’ll see its nutrition facts if it’s in the database. If not, you can add it yourself.
- Adjust the portion size and save.
Health Features
In the Health tab, a new “Nutrition” section provides stats on energy burned, hydration, calorie goals, and macronutrient intake.
The app also introduces a “Mental Wellbeing” section where you can explore mindfulness and body responses. This reflects a broader trend in health apps focusing on mental health, which is gaining traction as more users prioritize their emotional well-being.
Fitbit now uses a “Resilience” metric in place of the “Stress management score,” offering insights into how your body handles stress. This ranks your resilience as Low, Balanced, or Optimal.
Cycle Tracking
There’s also an option to log menstrual cycles, with Fitbit Premium users receiving tailored insights from the coach. This aligns with growing health awareness, as many users now track their cycles to understand their bodies better.
User Reactions
Social media responses to the update have been mostly positive, with users appreciating the focus on nutrition and mental health. Many have shared their excitement about easily logging food and tracking stress levels.
Android version 4.66 is rolling out through the Play Store, while iOS users can already access the full features. Free users can join the Public Preview, enabling access to the new layout but not the AI Coach just yet.
By staying updated with these features, Fitbit aims to enhance your health and wellness journey, keeping your mental and physical well-being at the forefront.
