Syracuse University is excited to announce the opening of applications for the Orange Innovation Fund. This initiative supports graduate and undergraduate students seeking to turn their innovative ideas into reality. Students can apply for grants up to $5,000 each through March 28, 2025.
The Orange Innovation Fund is designed to help students move from concept to commercialization. It enables research and projects from initial ideas to tangible products. This valuable resource has a total budget of $50,000 each academic year, depending on the quality of applications received.
The Fund was established thanks to a generous gift from Raj-Ann Rekhi Gill, a Syracuse alumnus. It’s managed by the Syracuse University Libraries in partnership with various university programs, including the Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement, Invent@SU, and others. This collaboration aims to provide students with the tools they need to succeed.
To apply, students must clearly outline their project’s needs and expected outcomes. The application process focuses on the specific steps required to advance their innovations toward practical use in the market.
Linda Dickerson Hartsock, an expert in strategic initiatives, offers guidance for applicants. Students can schedule one-on-one sessions with her to refine their ideas.
An interdisciplinary panel of research faculty and alumni will review all submissions. Award notifications will be sent out in mid-April.
In the previous awards, seven student teams secured funding in Fall 2024, and nine teams received support in Spring 2024. This shows the growing interest and innovation among students at Syracuse.
