At Meta Connect 2025, Meta unveiled its latest smart glasses, the Oakley Meta Vanguard, aimed at athletes like runners and cyclists. Priced at $499, they will be available starting October 21.
These glasses have a unique front lens design, moving away from the earlier models that used two separate cameras. They can capture video in impressive 3K resolution and come equipped with a 12-megapixel camera featuring a wide-angle lens. A standout feature is the programmable button that lets users set custom commands through the Meta AI app. This is particularly handy for athletes who need quick access to information while keeping their hands free, as all buttons are conveniently placed under the frames.
The glasses boast a long battery life of up to nine hours and can play music for about six hours continuously. The charging case provides an additional 36 hours of power, with a quick charge feature that gives a 50% charge in just 20 minutes.
Meta has also improved the sound quality. The new open-ear speakers are now six decibels louder than those found in the previous Oakley Meta HSTN model. The glasses include a five-microphone array designed to minimize wind noise, ensuring clear communication during calls and when using voice commands.
Furthermore, these glasses are built for durability with an IP67 rating, making them resistant to dust and water. This means they can handle tough workouts without compromising performance.
Athletes will love the integration with Garmin smartwatches. With these glasses, users can easily check stats like heart rate and pace while on the go. They can also overlay performance metrics onto captured videos and share them with the Strava community, enhancing the user experience even further.
The Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses come in four stylish frame and lens options: Black with PRIZM 24K, White with PRIZM Black, Black with PRIZM Road, and White with PRIZM Sapphire. They will first be released in the U.S., Canada, and several European countries, with plans for launch in Mexico, India, Brazil, and the UAE later this year.
This launch follows the introduction of the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses just three months ago, signaling Meta’s commitment to innovation in wearable technology for both athletes and casual users. The company is also releasing a new model of Ray-Ban smart glasses with enhanced features like a built-in display for apps and better battery life.
